AgroCenta was founded to improve the agricultural value chain in Ghana by solving two critical problems rural-based smallholder farmers face namely, access to market and access to finance, be it formal or informal. Their agri-tech platforms allows organizations to manage everything in the agricultural supply chain from outgrower schemes, logistics, traceability to digital trading, quality assurance and data analytics as well as access digital services such as mobile money payments for commodities sold, micro-lending/input financing, crop insurance and pension scheme for the informal sector.
For this project our team was composed of a senior UI/UX designer, a PHP developer and a front-end developer. The task presented to us was to redesign the old Agrocenta website. I was in charge of the front-end development and worked remotely with the UI/UX team from Burkina Faso.
I took over the project and begun to prepare for the front-end development after the UI/UX team had spent about two weeks on its design. I had discussions with the Technology team head on the nitty-gritty information needed to start the project and begun work. After familiarizing with the details of the UX team’s design system, I begun development. I used the basic web and markup languages; HTML, CSS (Tailwind) and JavaScript to develop the website and set up for coding using the PHP framework, Laravel, that would also aid the back-end team during the development of their side of the project.
It was a great opportunity for me to be a part of this project. Not only did I get to work with a great UI/UX team, from who I learnt a lot, I also got the opportunity to sharpen my front-end development skills. Also, while working on this project I learnt what teamwork trully meant and developed great team player skills. There were different teams in-charge of different parts of the project but we learnt to work together effectively and help each other out where needed. I learnt to build a strong rapport with my team - a skill I will carry into whatever team within which I work.
